“Customer demand for cloud and AI is accelerating faster than ever, especially in Europe,” said a Microsoft Azure spokesperson. “We’re investing heavily in new regions and expanding existing ones so organizations can run critical workloads and innovate with confidence.” Among early adopters, Manchester City Council is using Microsoft 365 Copilot to streamline operations, while companies like Inriver leverage Microsoft Foundry for product data management.

Background: Azure’s Growing European Footprint

Microsoft’s global infrastructure now spans over 80 datacenter regions across 34 countries, with a significant concentration in Europe. This fiscal year alone, Azure has entered new markets and expanded capacity in key regions to meet rising demand for AI and business-critical applications.

The expansions include: Austria, Belgium, two regions in Denmark, Greece, Finland, and continued build-outs in Sweden and other Nordic countries. These regions provide customers with greater choice for data residency, compliance, and low-latency performance. “These investments go beyond capacity; they deliver trusted sovereign solutions designed for transparency and local regulatory alignment,” the spokesperson added.

With Azure’s expanded European footprint, organizations can now deploy AI solutions without compromising on data sovereignty. The Microsoft Sovereign Cloud, combined with the European Union Data Boundary, offers granular control over where data is stored and processed—while still providing access to advanced AI capabilities.
